When do you need to rotate PDF pages?
When a scanner hands you pages that are upside down, when a document photographed on your phone ends up lying on its side, or when a report has wide tables printed in landscape. Before sending a file like that to an office or uploading it to a portal, it's worth fixing the orientation so the reader doesn't have to tilt their head or turn the screen.
How rotation works in this tool
The tool doesn't redraw the pages; it changes the orientation value stored for each page in the file, using pdf-lib. As a result:
- Quality is unchanged, and text stays selectable and searchable.
- The angle you choose is added to the page's current orientation, so rotating a page that was already turned 180Β° brings it back to where it started.
- The "Apply to" option picks the pages: "All Pages", "Odd Pages" (1, 3, 5...) or "Even Pages" (2, 4, 6...).
How to rotate a PDF
- 1Click "Select files" or drag a PDF onto the box.
- 2In "Rotation Angle", choose "90Β° Clockwise", "180Β°" or "90Β° Counter-clockwise".
- 3In "Apply to", choose which pages to rotate, then click "Process Now".
- 4Check the pages in the preview that opens automatically and make sure each one now sits the right way up.
- 5Click "Download Result" to save
rotated.pdf.
When to use odd or even pages
When you scan double-sided sheets on a scanner that flips the paper, the back sides often come out upside down while the fronts are fine. Choose "180Β°" with "Even Pages" to fix only the backs. If the page order itself is wrong, rearrange it with Organize PDF, and for phone photos see our guide to turning phone photos into a PDF.
Limitations
- You can't pick a single page, such as page 7 alone. The choices are all pages, odd pages or even pages.
- Rotation is in right angles only (90Β° and 180Β°); it doesn't straighten a page that was scanned slightly crooked.
- A file with a password or permission restrictions isn't rotated: the tool stops and asks you to open it first with Unlock PDF, then try again with the unlocked copy.
- One file at a time.
Where is the processing done?
The orientation change is applied to a copy of your file inside the browser; the tool doesn't need to send anything over the internet to do its job.
Rotate PDF: frequently asked questions
Do pages lose sharpness after rotating?
No. The page content isn't touched, only the way it's displayed, so the file size stays close to the original.
Will the rotation show up in every program?
Yes. Page orientation is part of the PDF standard and is respected by PDF readers, browsers, phone apps and printers.
I rotated the file the wrong way. What now?
Your original file hasn't changed. Run it again with the other angle, or put the rotated file through once more with the opposite option.
How do I rotate just one page?
The tool doesn't offer that yet. If the page sits among correct pages, choosing odd or even pages will rotate the others in that group too.
