I'm a web developer from Morocco. I build SmokePDF's tools and write the articles on its blog. I created the site to be the place I was looking for: free PDF tools in Arabic, all on one site, without your files ever leaving your device.
I test every tool on sample files before publishing it, and I write the articles from tests I run myself, reporting the results as they are, including the cases where a tool doesn't give the result you want. The idea started with a personal need, which turned out to be shared by many Arabic-speaking users.
Sensitive Files Uploaded to Servers I Didn't Know
I often needed to merge, compress or convert PDF files, and most of the sites I tried required uploading the file to their servers first. With news of hacks and data leaks coming out all the time, I was no longer comfortable uploading a contract, a bank statement or a personal document to a server when I didn't know who runs it or when my file gets deleted.
No Arabic Site Had What I Needed
I looked for an Arabic alternative that processes files without uploading them and found only a few: some offered a limited set of tools, and on others the tools didn't work properly. I couldn't find a single site that brought together most of the PDF tools an Arabic-speaking user needs, in one place and for free.
Processing Inside the Browser
Modern browsers can read, edit and create PDF files on the user's own device. So I built SmokePDF on that basis: every operation runs inside your browser, and your file is never sent to any server.
A Site That Keeps Growing
SmokePDF now has 29 free tools in Arabic and English, from merging and splitting to compression, conversion, signing and protection. I keep adding new tools and fixing problems as they come up, and I write guides on issues specific to Arabic documents, such as Arabic fonts changing during conversion and converting Arabic PDFs to Word.
